Christmas Tree Number Cards

I mentioned last week that I’m thinking about my husband and I are forgoing gifts this holiday season. Not bothering with presents has certainly opened up some more time for other fun things (like working on our house), but really also actually fun thing things like holiday filled activities to do with our toddler as well as holiday themed trays for our shelves.
Mr. Toddler is still going back and forth between asking to review letters and asking to work on numbers, so I’m constantly thinking about new ways to get some counting practice on our shelves.
Given Mr. Toddler’s obsession with playdough, I’ve also been trying to work it into our trays where I can. I came up with a very simple Christmas Tree Ornament counting activity!

Counting cards

Here are a few extensions and ideas for using these free counting cards to help your little ones learn their numbers!

Line them up

This is a very common approach in Montessori based activities. Kids use cards to line them up in order. You can also use them for skip counting for older kids.

Additionally, I included two versions of this printable – one with the number symbol as well as ornaments, and one with the number symbol cards separate. The Christmas tree cards can be matched to the number symbol for preschoolers or kindergartners.

Use playdough

Playdough has been a hit around here lately. Here’s how we set up our playdough extension with these cards!

Use a manipulative

And lastly, a fun manipulative always adds an additional interest to a simple printable. You can also ask your little ones to place the corresponding quantity of manipulatives onto each tree!
