There’s just something about dinosaurs that draws kids in! Little ones just become so fascinated trying to understand them, discovering the different types, and just trying to wrap their interested little minds around them! To help my little learners become familiar with some of the different types of dinosaurs, I created a set of dinosaur theme 3 part cards.
Dinosaur Theme Preschool Activities
Age: You can use these cards for children approximately between the ages of 3-6.
Why: Using 3 part cards is a fantastic way to practice reading, develop language skills, and spark interest in a topic. Three part cards are an interactive way for children to remember and retain the knowledge that they gain from the cards. Sets like this will help children to master new information.
Presenting your dinosaur theme 3 part cards
If you do not have a special tray for presenting 3 part cards, you can also use a tray without compartments, just add a few bowls or plates to hold each of the different sized cards. This will prevent the cards from moving around on the tray and will keep the activity neat for the child to do.
If you are presenting these dinosaur themed 3 part cards for the first time, make sure that you first provide a demonstration of how to do the activity.

Use the image cards in combination with a Montessori 3 part lesson to teach new vocabulary to kids. Here is how I present new vocabulary:
- Take the tray and place it on your mat on the ground (or table, or wherever you work).
- Lay out the image cards in front of you. Leave enough space for control cards to the right of each image card, and labels underneath each image card.
- Next, match the label cards to the image cards. Place them underneath each image card.
- Check your work by adding the control cards to the right of each image card.
- Gather the materials, and put them back on the tray.
- Bring the tray back to its spot on the shelving unit.
Now it’s your child’s turn!
With younger kiddos, you may not want to present all of the cards at once. There is a total of 26 different dinosaurs included in this set, but you may want to start out with five or six for a younger child. If she isn’t reading yet, you may consider only providing the image and control cards to use as a matching work.
In addition to presenting the cards, you can add some small dinosaur figurines for your students to match to the cards. This will add an interesting hands-on component to the work!
